There are many who argue that, if a painter can paint a picture without an external eye guiding him to improve its representation, a writer can also write his work without the help of an editor. This concept is wrong, in my opinion, and the reason is simple: painting and writing are two different art forms. In the first there is a purely visual message, in the second only textual. It is communication that happens in different ways. Images and books: how communication happens An image is an immediate communication : looking at a painting, we receive the message of that image instantly. The eye records the scene and translates it to our brain.
A book, on the other hand, is a communication guided along a path : by reading, we are following a path traced by the writer until we reach the completeness of his message. It's a question of timing. But it is not the time needed to create the message, we cannot say that it is faster to paint a picture or write a book. I'm talking about the time it takes for the public to Phone Number Data receive the message. Reading is the transformation of words into images What happens to our brain when we read? In this summary image, created by Open Education Database and translated by me, we can understand something about this apparently simple action that is reading. Reading and the brain Click to enlarge I'm reading a book, Proust and the Squid: History of the Reading Brain by Maryanne Wolf, which explains in a scientific way how reading was born and how our brain had to transform in order to read.
Why? The answer is simple and surprising at the same time: we were not born to read . We have adapted to do it. But our brain hasn't had to adapt to looking at images, because it has always done so since the dawn of time. We live in a visual reality: our every action is defined, stimulated and influenced by the images that surround us. Why do you think everyone insists on inserting images into posts to aid reading? But how? Do we need help reading? Aren't elementary schools enough? Training exists for every artist When I attended comics school many years ago, there were aspiring cartoonists of all levels in my class. Some, in my opinion, didn't even need school: they were talented who just needed to practice with a job. Someone else, however, didn't need it because he wasn't good at drawing and a school can't teach you how to draw.
